Studies reveal extensive contamination across both the island's interior and marine environment, with significant impacts on both ecosystems and human health.

Discarded microplastics in country villages, on beaches, and in the sea surrounding the island are having a detrimental effects on humans, fauna, and flora.

 This issue affects the relationship between communities and their environment, particularly for each villages’ populations that rely on natural resources for their livelyhood.
